Useful subjects might begin with one distinctive object, a particular kind of shared space or a ritual whose meaning deserves a closer look. Keep the focus on culture rather than match predictions or professional advice.

Make the pitch specific

Tell us the proposed subject, the central idea and what readers will understand by the end. Include the intended format and a brief note about the sources or material you would use. A narrow, well-shaped idea is easier to assess than a broad promise to cover sport.
